Savage Communications (“SCI”) was established and incorporated in 1984. The primary purpose of the company was to provide cable television to rural communities. The first cable television franchise was awarded in 1984. Before the close of 1984, the first system was launched in Hinckley, MN. That was just the beginning. By 1995, the company was providing cable service to 35 rural communities in Minnesota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
By the late 1990’s technology was changing and the digital era had begun. With new digital technology, cable companies and telephone companies now had the ability to compete with one another. In a matter of time, the analog phone and analog television became obsolete. Digital technology allowed SCI the ability to provide high-speed Internet, digital television, digital phone service, and HDTV.
As the year 2000 approached, SCI implemented an aggressive business plan investing millions of dollars to upgrade its rural communities adding advanced digital services. During 2000, SCI launched high-speed data service and in 2001 added digital television service. Today, each rural community served by SCI has digital television and high-speed internet service available.
In 2007, SCI successfully launched phone service in Hinckley, MN. SCI is expanding phone service with plans to have the service available in each of the communities it serves by the end of 2008. Also in 2007, SCI launched broadcast HDTV channels in several communities and plans to have the service available in most communities by the end of 2008. Currently, SCI is investing in the latest digital technology which will provide communities a robust HDTV cable channel lineup.
From humble beginnings as a rural cable company to becoming a competitive independent telecommunications company, SCI and its employees have never lost sight of their mission:
